Harry Laurie & Felicia (Harris) Sellers Named 2018 Saint Peter’s University MAAC Basketball Honor Roll Inductees
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced Saint Peter’s University basketball legends Harry Laurie and Felicia (Harris) Sellers will be inducted in the 2018 MAAC Honor Roll. Honorees will be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 15.
Each member institution of the MAAC honors one male and one female from its basketball “family” as part of the 2018 induction class. A dinner event takes place Saturday, September 15 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize the Honor Roll inductees.
Each honoree will be profiled in the game program for the 2019 MAAC Basketball Championships and will also be featured in a video display at “The MAAC Experience.”
Harry Laurie ‘68
A member of the 1981 inaugural class of the Saint Peter’s University Athletic Hall of Fame, Harry Laurie was known as the man with the “world’s tallest fingers” during his time in Jersey City. Only playing for Saint Peter’s for two seasons, he helped guide the Peacocks to the first two of three consecutive National Invitational Tournament (NIT) berths, including the historic “Run, Baby, Run” 1967-68 Peacocks team that advanced to the NIT semifinals and had a program-best 24 wins.
Laurie scored 860 points in his two seasons and was the Peacocks second-leading rebounder during his time. He ranks top-10 on the Peacocks all-time charts in career scoring average (16.7 points per game), career free-throw percentage (.733), and career rebounding average (8.0 rebounds per game). Laurie was named Met Conference MVP, All-East, and All-American Honorable Mention as a senior, and garnered All-Met honors as a junior and senior.
In addition to his 1981 Hall of Fame induction, Laurie’s 1967-68 team was inducted into the Saint Peter’s University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.
Felicia (Harris) Sellers ’02
Felicia (Harris) Sellers graduated from Saint Peter’s in 2002 as one of the all-time great players under Hall of Fame head coach Mike Granelli. Harris led Saint Peter’s to three MAAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances from 1998-2002, while garnering MAAC Championship MVP honors in 2002 and All-Tournament team honors in 2001 and 2002.
Harris ranks top-10 all-time in the Peacock’s record book in four statistical categories. She is sixth in career scoring (1,318 points), eighth in career rebounds (732), fourth in career free-throws attempted (541), and seventh in career free-throw percentage (.756), while ranking 17
th all-time in career scoring average (11.0). Harris’ best season came during her senior year in 2001-02 when she set Saint Peter’s single-season top-10 marks in points (510), field goals attempted (410), free-throws made (162), and free-throws attempted (210), leading to her only appearance on the All-MAAC First Team. She also claimed spots on the MAAC All-Rookie Team (1998-99) and MAAC All-Academic Team (2001-02).
Harris was selected to the Saint Peter’s University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. She currently resides in Jersey City with her husband, Antonio Keith Sellers and their son, 14-year-old Antonio Sellers, working as a Crisis Intervention Teacher at Lincoln High School. Her husband was a member of the Saint Peter’s men’s basketball program from 1997-01 and was a 2016 Saint Peter’s University Athletic Hall of Fame inductee.
