MAAC Announces 2018-19 Men's Basketball Schedule

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has released the 2018-19 men’s basketball league schedule. Each of the 11 schools play an unbalanced 18-game slate, with the 18 games being split evenly between home and away (nine and nine).
 
The 2018-19 campaign gets underway after the calendar flips to 2019 with a full slate of five games on Thursday, January 3.
 
2018-19 Matchup Highlights
• Rider University and Canisius College, who shared the regular season title last year, open on the road at Fairfield University and Marist College respectively. The Jamion Christian era at Siena College gets underway at Saint Peter’s University who are led by another first-year head coach Shaheen Holloway. Iona College—three-time defending MAAC Champions—opens league play hosting Monmouth University. Quinnipiac University visits Manhattan College as well on opening night.

• Rider and Canisius will meet twice this season. The first encounter is up in Buffalo, NY Friday, January 11. The two sides play in Lawrenceville, NJ on Friday, February 8.
 
• Fairfield and Iona met for the MAAC Championship in 2018, and the two will battle twice in the month of January. Iona hosts Fairfield on Saturday, January 5 in New Rochelle, NY and the two play at Fairfield on Sunday, January 27.
 
• John Dunne has the first three leagues games as the head coach of Marist at home—Canisius (January 3), Manhattan (January 8), and Siena (January 11)—over the first eight days of the league calendar.
 
• Niagara University and Canisius meet for the “Battle of the Bridge” on Wednesday, January 30 at Niagara and Wednesday, February 27 at Canisius.
 
• Saint Peter’s lost to Iona in the semifinals of the MAAC Championship a season ago, and the two sides will meet once this season at the Hynes Center in New Rochelle, NY on Friday, February 15.
 
• Quinnipiac and Fairfield met in the other semifinal at the 2018 MAAC Championship. The Bobcats and Stags meet in Hamden, CT on Sunday, January 13.
 
• Manhattan and Iona just once this season. The encounter happens on Friday, February 22 at Manhattan’s Draddy Gymnasium.

The MAAC season concludes with the 2019 MAAC Basketball Championships, March 7-11, at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The conference champion earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
