EDISON, NJ – Bob McCloskey Insurance (BMI), a corporate partner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), has awarded post-graduate scholarships to former Manhattan College baseball player, Brendan Bisset and former University Men’s Lacrosse player, Bryce Wasserman.

As part of its agreement with the MAAC, Bob McCloskey Insurance provides postgraduate scholarships to two former student-athletes from the league’s member institutions. The intent of the scholarships is to promote and encourage academically and athletically accomplished student-athletes to continue their education by attending graduate school. As part of the selection process, the committee evaluates athletic and academic achievements, as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities, and demonstrate leadership.

“MAAC student-athletes are expected to demonstrate their commitment to academic excellence and athletic competitiveness, and both goals are being met by Bryce Wasserman and Brendan Bisset,” notes MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “I congratulate both of them and their families for receiving the BMI Scholarship awards that will assist in their post-graduate studies and future endeavors.”

Bisset was a four-year standout on the Manhattan College baseball team, highlighted by ranking eighth in the MAAC with a .335 average as a junior in 2017. A three-time MAAC All-Academic team honoree, Bisset graduated with a 3.32 GPA and earned a degree in finance and minor in Spanish before finishing his collegiate career with a .286 average, 163 hits and 65 RBI.

The Manhattan grad was an All-MAAC Academic Team for three-consecutive years (2016-18) and Dean’s List all four years as well as a volunteer in the Jaspers sports information department.

Manhattan’s Director of Sports Information and Media Relations Kevin Ross worked closely with Brendan over his collegiate career, “(Brendan) would go above and beyond for our department and the league as is evident when we had the MAAC Tournament announcement in Staten Island,” notes Ross. “He made it a priority to go to Richmond County Bank Ballpark with myself for the announcement. Some might view that as a small thing, but half the battle in life is being present and accountable.”

Bisset plans on attending Belmont University for Sports Administration while working in ticket operations and fan development in their athletic department. Working part-time at a country club and interning for the Vanderbilt University Athletic Department. His goal is to one day be an college or university Athletic Director.

“This scholarship helps me and my family because now I’m now able to fully focus on my schoolwork while gaining valuable work experience,” said Bisset. “The MAAC alleviated a good deal of financial pressure from my family by awarding me this scholarship, making me forever grateful to the people who felt I was deserving of this honor.”

Wasserman was a four-year member of the Monmouth Hawks Lacrosse team and his hard-work and demeanor led him to become the program’s All-Time leader in points, goals, assists and Two-time First Team All-MAAC Attackman.

His former head coach Brian Fisher had a lot to say about the one of the program’s greats, “Bryce is well deserving of the MAAC Post Graduate Scholar-Athlete scholarship and I couldn’t be prouder of and happy for him with the success he’s had this past summer with the Ohio Machine and during his time here at Monmouth.”

He became the first in Monmouth program’s history to be drafted to Major League Lacrosse; the Denver Outlaws selected him 62nd overall in April 2018. During the offseason Wasserman signed with the Ohio Machine and will be on the 25-man roster to begin the season.

Wasserman was involved on his campus as Vice President and Director of Social Media in SAAC all four years as well as a Team Impact Ambassador that collected donations from all 22 athletic programs on campus to buy Christmas presents at a local special needs school. He was All-MAAC Academic Team for three-consecutive years (2016-18) and graduated cum laude his senior year.

He was also awarded the Bill Boylan Award for Monmouth’s most successful and well-rounded student-athlete on and off the field. Wasserman will return to Monmouth to pursue his graduate degree.

“I’m honored the MAAC viewed me as a person they support to represent the conference as I pursue by graduate education,” Wasserman said, “I am very excited to continue my schooling and while also continuing to represent this great conference.”
