Sweeney Joins Women's Lacrosse Staff as Assistant Coach

Head Coach Tanya Kotowicz Hires Katherine Sweeney

HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse head coach Tanya Kotowicz has announced the addition of Katherine Sweeney as an assistant coach. Sweeney joins the Bobcats after two seasons at Wagner College where she helped the Seahawks to the 2018 Northeast Conference Championship.
 
"I am excited to welcome Katherine into the Quinnipiac Lacrosse family," Coach Kotowicz said. "Her passion to develop student-athletes and her enthusiasm for the game is a valuable addition to our staff as we continue to build a strong foundation both on the field and in the classroom."
 
In 2018, Sweeney helped the Seahawks to an NEC Tournament Championship as well as a Co-Regular Season Title, coaching the 2018 NEC Rookie of the Year, NEC Midfielder of the Year, and multiple All-NEC players. In addition to her stint at Wagner, she was a club coach for United 2019, and assisted at various camps around the region.

"I am extremely honored and excited for this opportunity to become a member of the Quinnipiac Women's Lacrosse Coaching staff," Sweeney said. "I would like to thank Tanya Kotowicz and the entire search committee for the privilege to be able to continue my coaching career. I am looking forward to getting started to help mentor and lead this team."

As a student-athlete herself, Sweeney helped lead UAlbany to a record of 65-19 (.774) and to the America East Conference championship game in each of her four years, highlighted by an appearance in the 2015 NCAA Championships in her junior season. For her career, the Canton, New York, native scored 48 points on 45 goals and three assists.

In addition to her playing and coaching experience,  Sweeney also completed a pair of internships at UAlbany. In the summer/fall of 2015, Sweeney assisted the Great Danes' Athletics/Sports Media department and in the summer of 2016, she interned with the UAlbany Student Affairs Graphic Design department. In the spring of 2016, she completed an internship in Graphic Design with Under Armour.
 
Sweeney graduated Cum Laude from UAlbany in May, earning a Bachelor's of Arts Degree while majoring in Fine Art with a minor in Communications. In addition to her coaching duties, Sweeney also received her MBA at Wagner.
