Rider Men and Fairfield Women Tabbed 2018-19 Swimming & Diving Preseason Favorites
EDISON, NJ - Rider University Men and Fairfield University Women were selected by the league’s 10 head coaches to finish first heading into the 2018-19 Swimming & Diving season. The Broncs men’s team took home the 2018 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championship, while the Stags won the MAAC title for the women.
Last season, Rider collected its programs seventh-straight MAAC Swimming & Diving Championship and eighth overall. Rider received nine-of-10 first-place votes from the coaches and 99 total points. Marist Collegee was tabbed second behind Rider, with 89 points, while Bryant University (79 points) was third.
Fourth, was a tie between, Iona College and Canisius College with 61 points. Fairfield (48) was sixth, while Saint Peter's University and Monmouth University were seventh and eighth with 34 and 29 points respectively. Niagara University (21) was voted ninth, and Manhattan College (19) rounded out the poll.
The Fairfield women received all 10 first-place votes for 100 points. The Stags are led by head coach Anthony Bruno, who received the Coach of the Year honor at last year championships.
Fairfield is followed by Marist who received 88 points and Iona with 77 points. Canisius received 67 points putting them in fourth, while Rider came in fifth with 57.
Niagara (49 points) was picked sixth, ahead of Siena College (38) in seventh. Monmouth (34) came in eighth, Manhattan (20) was picked ninth, while Saint Peter’s was voted 10th with 12 points.
The
2019 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie County Community College (ECC) in Buffalo, NY co-hosted with Canisius College and Niagara University for the ninth consecutive year and takes place Wednesday, February 13 – Saturday, February 16, 2019.
