ESPN Announces MAAC Wildcard Game for February 8
EDISON, NJ – ESPN has announced that Canisius College at Rider University on February 8 in Lawrenceville, NJ will air on ESPNU at 7 p.m. as part of the MAAC Wildcard Game package.
It will be the second and final regular-season meeting between the two teams that were the 2017-18 MAAC Co-Regular Season Champions. Rider (9-7, 4-0 MAAC) topped Canisius (6-11, 3-2 MAAC) 82-73 back on January 11 in Buffalo, NY.
Canisius picked up a win at Quinnipiac on Thursday night, which was the Golden Griffins fifth road triumph of the season. Sophomore Takal Molson paces Canisius at 17.1 points per game, which puts the reigning Rookie of the Year fourth in the MAAC. Isaiah Reese leads the Golden Griffins on the glass at 5.9 rebounds per game and is second in scoring at 12.4.
The Broncs of Rider sit atop the MAAC standings with an undefeated mark in league play. The Broncs are number one in the MAAC in scoring margin, field goal percentage, rebounding margin, assists, steals, and turnover margin. Four Broncs average at least 10 points a game, led by Jordan Allen’s 12.6. Frederick Scott, Stevie Jordan, and Dimencio Vaughn are the other three in double figures. Vaughn shares the league lead in steals at 2.5 per game and Jordan is third in assists at 4.4 per game.
The wildcard format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for that specific date to air on ESPNU and allows the MAAC and ESPN the flexibility to showcase the best matchups as the season progresses.
