Player of the Week
Stella Johnson, Rider
Jr., Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic
Junior Stella Johnson averaged 20 points per game as Rider won three games in MAAC play. Stella shot 56 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point range to help the Broncs improve to 6-0 in MAAC play for the first time in program history. She also averaged six rebounds, five assists and two steals per contest. In a win at Iona, she scored 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. She capped the week with 22 points, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals in a victory at Manhattan.
Rookie of the Week
Briyanah Richardson, Saint Peter’s
Fr., New Brunswick, NJ/Matawan Regional
Freshman point guard, Briyanah Richardson scored a career high 39 points in Saint Peter’s 68-65 win against Fairfield on Tuesday. Richardson went 5-5 from behind the arc and 8-9 from the free throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds and four assists. She becomes the first Peacock to score over 30 points in a game since Jynae Judson scored 34 points on December 7, 2010, against Lehigh. Richardson also added a total of ten points against Rider on Friday night, going 8-10 from the free throw line. She now leads the Peacocks in scoring and assists, averaging 14.5 points and 3.6 assists.
