Quinnipiac’s Young and Siena’s Pickett Named Pepsi Zero MAAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week

The MAAC's leading scoring kept up his torrid pace this past week, scoring 57 points over two Bobcat wins. Young averaged 28.5, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. The California native became the 41st player in Quinnipiac program history to record 1,000 points on Sunday versus Saint Peter's. He scored 29 points on Friday against Marist, then 28 on Sunday.
Rookie of the Week
Jalen Pickett, Siena

Pickett averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.5 assists, while shooting 62% from the field in leading the Saints to a perfect 2-0 week. On Thursday, Pickett posted his fifth 20-point performance this season, tallying a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting while adding four rebounds, four steals, and three assists at Fairfield. He set the tone by scoring 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting in the first half to stake Siena to a lead which it would not relinquish. Pickett concluded his stellar week by scoring a game-high 18 points while adding five rebounds and four steals in a victory over Manhattan, as he led the Saints, who were projected to finish last according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, to their first three-game winning streak in two years. Pickett scored 11 of Siena's points during a 15-6 run to open the second half, which pushed the lead to a game-high 15. Additionally, the Saints' floor general did not commit a turnover in 38 minutes while running the point against a Jaspers' defense which entered the day ranked 48th nationally forcing an average of 15.6 turnovers per game. The first-year Saint has collected five straight Rookie of the Week honors and seven overall this season.
