ESPN Announces MAAC Wildcard Game for January 25
EDISON, NJ – ESPN has announced that the January 25th game between Iona College and Rider University in New Rochelle, NY will air on ESPNU at 7 p.m. as part of the MAAC Wildcard Game package.
Iona (4-9, 2-0 MAAC) has won back-to-back contests against Monmouth University, 103-84, and Fairfield University, 94-87, to open MAAC play. EJ Crawford is the top scorer for the Gaels at 16.8 points a game—fifth in the MAAC. Three other Gaels average 10-plus points per game. Tajuan Agee grabs 6.9 boards a contest, which is fifth in the MAAC.
Rider (7-7, 2-0 MAAC), who was the unanimous preseason favorite in the MAAC, has opened league play with a one-point win over Fairfield and a five-point victory over Quinnipiac University. Jordan Allen and Dimencio Vaughn pace the offense for the Broncs at 12.7 points per game. Guard Stevie Jordan hands out 4.2 assists per game.
Iona (79.0) and Rider (76.6) are the top two scoring teams in the MAAC this season. Both sides rank first or second in field goal percentage, assists per game, and steals per game.
The wildcard format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for that specific date to air on ESPNU and allows the MAAC and ESPN the flexibility to showcase the best matchups as the season progresses.
In 2019, the MAAC Basketball Championships will be at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY on March 7-11. The men’s basketball championship semifinals will air on ESPN3 and ESPNU. The first semifinal will air at 6 p.m. live on ESPN3 and will re-air at 10:30 p.m. on ESPNU. The second semifinal will be live on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m. The women’s basketball Championship Game will air live on ESPNU at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11. The men’s basketball Championship Game will be on ESPN or ESPN2 on Monday, March 11 at 9 p.m. The network for the men’s championship game will be determined 7-10 days before the championship. The remainder of the MAAC Championships games will air on ESPN3 or ESPN+.
All events will be available for replay on the ESPN App.
Games aired on an ESPN network will also be available through the ESPN App, accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
