Saints to Help Raise Cancer Awareness on Multiple Occasions This Fall

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Lacrosse program has announced their alignment with two separate causes, Vs. Cancer program and the HEADstrong foundation. Both initiatives are to raise awareness on cancer, and will be a focal point on the Saints fall season and beyond.

"We are excited to pair with these two causes," said head coach Liam Gleason. "Both of these initiatives hit close to home within our lacrosse family at Siena, so it means a lot be able to give back and help both foundations move forward toward their goals."

Vs. Cancer – October 20, Tri-Scrimmage at Hickey Field

More children die from cancer in the United States than any other disease. The Siena, Binghamton, and LeMoyne men's lacrosse teams have joined the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Vs. Cancer program in an effort to change this. Throughout their fall scrimmage, the teams are raising awareness for pediatric cancer and funds for Vs. Cancer. During the October 20th lacrosse scrimmage at Siena, gate proceeds, t-shirt sales, and other fundraisers will all benefit Vs. Cancer and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Started by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player Chase Jones, Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, and any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.

Kimberly Roy-Canning, director of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's northeast region, understands how vital these athletes are to the nonprofit's mission. "We applaud the efforts and generous spirit of the Siena, Binghamton and LeMoyne men's lacrosse teams! Vs. Cancer wasn't just built by athletes for athletes. We were started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor, and we see every day how important family support and research are for children to thrive. With the support of these incredible teams, we're fighting for healthier, happier futures for these kids!"

HEADstrong Foundation – Initiative starting on October 19

Over the past 11 years college lacrosse players from across the country have been tossing their razors and growing a mustache in honor of those affected by cancer.

Lacrosse Mustache Madness supporting the HEADstrong Foundation has grown immensely each and every year both in terms of growers and money raised.  Since 2009, more than 12,000 collegiate student-athletes, representing more than 200 colleges and universities have participated in Lacrosse Mustache Madness.

This year, organizers hope to raise more than $315,000 in honor of the 315,000 families whose lives will be flipped upside down due to a cancer diagnosis during the six week campaign.

Additionally, the campaign has engaged more than 24,701 donors having raised more than $1,413,284.75 to support families overcome by cancer and fund nights at Nick's House for families displaced in the pursuit of treatment.
