MAAC Releases 2019-20 Swimming & Diving Preseason Polls
EDISON, NJ (Oct. 11, 2019) - Rider University Men’s Swimming & Diving and Fairfield University Women’s Swimming & Diving were picked as preseason favorites, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
The Broncs men’s team won the 2019 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championship, while the Stags took home the MAAC title for the women.
Rider collected its program’s eighth-straight MAAC Swimming & Diving Championship in 2018-19, picking up its ninth overall. Rider received seven-of-10 first-place votes from the coaches and 97 total points. Bryant University was tabbed second behind Rider, with 89 points, while Marist College (76 points) was third.
Iona College was selected fourth with 70 points and Monmouth University was right behind them in fifth-place with 55 points. Canisius College (53) was sixth, while Fairfield University and Saint Peter’s University were seventh and eighth with 41 and 32 points respectively. Niagara University (19) was voted ninth and Manhattan College (18) rounded out the poll.
The Fairfield women’s team received nine-of-10 first-place votes for 99 points. The Stags are led by Head Coach Anthony Bruno, who has led the Stags to two straight MAAC Championships and garnered Women’s Coach of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons.
Fairfield is followed by Marist who received 83 points and Rider with 82 points. Iona received 68 points putting them in fourth, while Canisius came in fifth with 59.
Monmouth (54 points) was picked sixth, ahead of Siena College (40) in seventh. Niagara (28) came in eighth, Manhattan (19) was picked ninth, while Saint Peter’s was voted 10th with 18 points.
The
2020 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie County Community College (ECC) in Buffalo, New York. The Championships are co-hosted by Canisius and Niagara for the 10th consecutive year and take place Wednesday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 15.
