The Monmouth Hawks (12-2-2, 10-0 MAAC) became the first program in MAAC history to win seven-consecutive Regular Season Championships and the first team to ever go 10-0 in MAAC play. Monmouth clinched the top seed on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a 4-0 win at home over Rider. The Hawks went undefeated in conference play after finishing 9-1 the previous two seasons. By claiming the No. 1 seed, Monmouth will receive a first round bye before pursuing the program’s fourth-straight MAAC Championship.
The Fairfield Stags (10-5-3, 7-2-1) claimed the No. 2 seed and will receive a first-round bye and will host the higher advancing seed from Sunday’s first round games. Fairfield returns to the MAAC Championship after not making the cut in the 2018 season. The Stags ended their regular season with a 2-0 loss against the top seeded Hawks in a potential MAAC Championship Game preview.
First round action begins on Nov. 3 with No. 3 Rider (8-5-4, 5-3-2) hosting No. 6 Niagara (8-7-2, 4-5-1 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The Broncs bested the Purple Eagles 5-0 in their matchup earlier this season. The two teams last met in the MAAC Championship a season ago, with the Purple Eagles advancing on a 2-1 win as the No. 4 seed in the opening round.
No. 4 Marist (8-9-1, 5-4-1) will host No. 5 Quinnipiac (9-7-1, 5-4-1) in Poughkeepsie, New York the same day. The Red Foxes defeated the Bobcats 1-0 in their matchup earlier this season, giving them the opportunity to host the first round game. Sunday’s game will mark the first time the two conference rivals meet in MAAC Championship play.
