Saint Peter’s Men’s Soccer Clinches MAAC Regular Season Title

EDISON, N.J. (Oct. 30, 2019) – Saint Peter’s University (11-5, 8-1 MAAC) has clinched the 2019 MAAC Men’s Soccer Regular Season Championship.
 
Saint Peter’s defeated Manhattan College 2-1 (OT) on Oct. 30 to propel the team to its eighth straight victory. With an Iona College (5-2-1 MAAC) loss to Rider University, the Peacocks pulled out of striking distance.
 
Jordan Jowers scored in the 51st minute to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead, which they carried until the 81st minute when Berti Fourrier got the Jaspers on the board. Senior Frederik Lindqvist sealed the win for Saint Peter’s in overtime, keeping the team undefeated at home this season.
 
The lone conference loss for Saint Peter’s came in its season opener at Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats pulled out the win in double overtime by a score of 2-1. The Peacocks have not lost since that Oct. 2 meeting.
 
Saint Peter’s will be the No. 1 seed in the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship for the first time since 2010. The top-seeded Peacocks went on to win that year’s Championship.
 
The field for the six-team championship will be officially set when the MAAC men’s soccer regular season wraps up on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The 2019 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship begins with first round action on Sunday, Nov. 10 hosted by the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Saint Peter’s will receive a first round bye before hosting the lower advancing seed in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 14. The No. 2 seed will host the higher advancing seed the same day. The highest remaining seed will play host to the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 17. Tickets for all rounds are now on sale at https://maac.ticketleap.com/.
