MAAC Teams Set to Compete at 2019 NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships This Friday
EDISON, NJ (Nov. 11, 2019) - The NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships take place Friday, Nov. 15, with all the MAAC institutions participating in either the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania or the Northeast Regional in Buffalo, New York.
Heading to Buffalo for the Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Buffalo, will be Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Siena College. Monmouth University, Rider University, and Saint Peter’s University will head to Bethlehem, PA for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, hosted by Lehigh University.
At the 2019 MAAC Cross Country Championships, Iona took home both the men’s and women’s titles. The men’s title marked the program’s 29th consecutive MAAC Championship, and the women picked up their fourth-straight title.
In last year’s regional championship, the Iona men’s team placed second to secure its position in the 2018 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship. The Gaels were led by this year’s MAAC Most Outstanding Performer Ehab El-Sandali, who placed fourth overall with a time of 32:36.6, averaging a 5:16.3 mile over the 10K course.
On the women’s side, Iona received a fifth-place finish with sophomore Egle Morenaite placing second overall to receive a bid to compete individually at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional starts at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s 6K and the men’s 10k run at 12:00 p.m. The Northeast Regional gets underway at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s 6K and the men’s 10K at noon.
