Saint Peter’s, Iona Set to Play in 2019 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship Game
EDISON, N.J. (Nov. 14, 2019) – No. 1 Saint Peter’s and No. 3 Iona advance to the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Soccer Championship Game.

Key Moments:
- Saint Peter’s took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Jamie Davis.
- Marist answered in the 17th minute with a goal from freshman Antek Sienkiel.
- The game was all tied up at 1-1 at the half.
- Freshman Stefan Copetti started the second half with a goal to give the Red Foxes a 2-1 lead.
- Tom Climpson scored his first career goal in the 80th minute to tie the game back up.
- Jordan Jowers, a unanimous All-MAAC First Team selection, scored the winning goal for the Peacocks in the 86th minute.
Notables:
- Saint Peter’s makes its first championship game appearance since 2010. The 2010 squad defeated Iona 2-1 to win the program’s second MAAC Championship.
- The Peacocks stay perfect at home (7-0).
- Saint Peter’s extends its winning streak to 10. The Peacocks have not lost since they fell to Quinnipiac on Oct. 2 for their lone conference loss.
- Saint Peter’s Head Coach Julian Richens was the unanimous pick for Coach of the Year, while Dominic Laws was dubbed Offensive Player of the Year. Marist’s Samuel Ilin earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
- Jowers and Laws were the only unanimous selections to the All-MAAC First Team.

- Junior Josh Plimpton struck first for the Gaels in the 21st minute.
- Najim Romero tacked on another goal in the 33rd minute to put Iona up 2-0.
- The Gaels took the 2-0 lead deep into the second half.
- Quinnipiac’s Brage Aasen got the Bobcats on the board in the 88th minute to set the final score at 2-1.
Notables:
- The Gaels have never lost to the Bobcats in Hamden (4-0-3).
- Iona makes its third appearance in the MAAC Championship Game. The last appearance for the Gaels came in 2010 against the No. 1 Peacocks.
- Iona seeks its first MAAC Championship on Sunday.
- The game featured the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in Iona’s Malcolm Moreno and the MAAC Rookie of the Year in Tomas Svecula. There were three All-MAAC First Teamers on the field in Moreno, Mauro Bravo and Eamon Whelan.
