Iona Men’s Soccer Set to Face Maryland in Program’s First NCAA Tournament Appearance

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 18, 2019) – The 2019 MAAC Men’s Soccer Champion Iona Gaels will travel to College Park, Maryland on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. to face the Maryland Terrapins in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
 
The Gaels secured the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 3-2 (OT) win over top-seeded Saint Peter’s in the MAAC Championship Game on Sunday, Nov. 17.
 
Iona finished the regular season with a 6-3-1 conference record before defeating No. 6 Rider, No. 2 Quinnipiac and No. 1 Saint Peter’s in pursuit of the program’s first MAAC title. Most Outstanding Player Josh Plimpton headlined the All-Championship Team alongside teammates Mauro Bravo, Malcolm Moreno and Najim Romero.
 
Maryland completed the regular season with a 10-7-2 overall record, going 3-3-2 in Big Ten play. The defending national champions fell to Indiana University in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
