Iona Claims 29th-Straight MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship
HOLMDEL, N.J. (Nov. 2, 2019) – Iona College earned its NCAA record 29th-straight MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship this Saturday at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, New Jersey. The Gaels were paced by Ehab El-Sandali, the 2019 Male Most Outstanding Runner, who ran a 25:07.15 over the five-mile course.
Ehab El-Sandali is the 19th-straight individual champion for the Gaels.
Iona swept with a perfect score of 15 to take home the title. El-Sandali was followed by Ed Goddard (25:07.45), Jack O’Leary (25:07.54), Jamie Dee (25:07.55), and John Millar (25:07.78).
The 2019 MAAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year is Joshua DeSouza from Iona. DeSouza finished with a time of 25:29.26 placing seventh overall.
Along with DeSouza, the MAAC All-Rookie team is Campbell Lee (25:48.91) of Iona, Damien Dilcher (25:58.10) of Iona, Aidan Gillooley (26:05.56) of Siena, and Ramsey Little (26:08.99) of Marist.
Postseason competition continues Friday, Nov. 15th in Buffalo, New York for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. The NCAA Division I Championship is Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana hosted by Indiana State University.
