Iona Claims Fourth-Straight MAAC Women's Cross Country Championship
HOLMDEL, N.J. (Nov. 2, 2019) – Iona College earned its fourth-straight MAAC Women’s Cross Country Championship this Saturday at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, New Jersey. The Gaels were paced by Egle Morenaite, the 2019 Women’s Most Outstanding Runner, who ran a 21:18.13 over the 6K course.
This is Morenaite’s third-straight MAAC Cross Country Championship, with her first starting at Holmdel Park in 2017.
Iona swept the top four positions to take home the title. Morenaite was followed by her teammates Gemma Nuttall (21:34.23), Sophie Murphy (21:34.86), and Kaitlyn Ohrtman (21:38.32).
The 2019 MAAC Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year is Sammi Ragenklint from Monmouth. Ragenklint finished with a time of 22:12.01 placing seventh overall.
Along with Ragenklint, the MAAC All-Rookie team is Andria Scaglione (22:22.86) of Manhattan, Sophia Vinciguerra (22:46.24) of Siena, Nicola Scaglione (23:17.09) of Manhattan, and Jennifer Tavares (23:20.46) of Monmouth.
Postseason competition continues Friday, Nov, 15th in Buffalo, New York for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. The NCAA Division I Championship is Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana hosted by Indiana State University.
