2019 MAAC Volleyball Championship – First Round

Quinnipiac University (13-15, 8-10 MAAC) defeated Rider University (15-16, 12-6) 3-1 in the first match of the 2019 MAAC Volleyball Championship. The Bobcats won over the Broncs when it mattered most, after dropping both regular season matchups. Quinnipiac moves on to play No. 2 seed Canisius College tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. in the championship semifinals.

Quinnipiac Notes
  • Quinnipiac grabbed the first set from the Broncs 25-16, led by Georgia Tselepi’s six kills.
  • The Bobcats didn’t slow down after a hot start, winning the second set 25-18.
  • Quinnipiac sealed the deal in a close fourth set, edging the Broncs 25-21.
  • Aryanah Diaz led the Bobcats with 19 digs, 2019 MAAC Libero of the year Alejandra Rodriguez finished with 15 digs.
  • Tselepi led all players with a .538 hitting percentage.
Rider Notes
  • After falling behind by two sets the Broncs captured set three 25-17, which included an 8-0 run midway through the frame to take the lead.
  • 2019 MAAC Rookie of the Year Morgan Romano led all players with 24 kills.
  • Rachelle Runyon led all players with 20 digs.
  • Anilee Sher finished with a team-best .500 hitting percentage. Romano finished with a .321 hitting percentage.

2019 MAAC Volleyball Championship – First Round

Marist College (15-14, 12-6) swept Niagara University (13-16, 12-6) in three sets to win the second game of the 2019 MAAC Volleyball Championship. With the win, Marist completed the season sweep of Niagara, wining their meetings this year 3-0, 3-2, and 3-0. Marist is set to face top seeded Fairfield University tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the championship semifinals.
 
Marist Notes
  • The Red Foxes took the final two points of the first set to win 25-23 and take a 1-0 lead.
  • Marist followed the first set with a dominant second set, taking it 25-11.
  • The Red Foxes trailed the entire third set before tying at 17 all, eventually sweeping Niagara with a 25-22 win in set three.
  • All-MAAC First Team selection Megan Fergus led the game with 15 kills. Nikii DeSerpa followed with 13.
  • The Red Foxes recorded eight service aces in the match. Sarah Austin and Gabby Murray both picked up three, Fergus recorded two, and Courtney Kasperski finished with one.
Niagara Notes
  • Caroline Leitch and Jaycie Roberts led the Purple Eagles with nine kills apiece. Roberts also led the team with 10 digs.
  • Jessica Streuer finished with 26 assists, leading Niagara.
  • Cameron Maris recorded a hitting percentage of .500 in the match. Leitch followed for the Purple Eagles at .240.
