Araujo, Ilin and Whelan Named Wilson MAAC Men’s Soccer Players of the Week
Offensive Player of the Week
Eamon Whelan, Quinnipiac
Sr., New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield High School
The senior turned in an impressive eight-point weekend for the Bobcats, scoring four times over two Quinnipiac wins. Whelan scored three times at Siena on Wednesday, Oct. 30, then netted another goal in Quinnipiac's 1-0 win over Fairfield on Nov. 2.
Defensive Player of the Week
Samuel Ilin, Marist
So., Brooklyn, NY/Midwood
Ilin made a career-high 10 saves in Marist’s shutout victory over Monmouth. He also recorded two saves against Iona, finishing with a save percentage of .857 for the week.
Rookie of the Week
Matt Araujo, Rider
Fr., Fords, NJ/Saint Joseph
Araujo scored his first career goal and assisted on Aaron Gabriel’s golden goal in overtime to help the Broncs to a pivotal 2-1 win on the road at Iona on Wednesday. The win was just the second by a road team (both Rider) in the last 15 games at Iona.
