She earned the honor for the first time this season and the third time in her career

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Senior guard Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) of the Rider University women's basketball team continued to rack up weekly awards as she was named the Division I Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) on Tuesday.

Johnson was honored by the MBWA as the Division I Player of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in her career.

Stella had another standout performance for the Broncs last weekend as Rider defeated Georgetown in Washington, DC. Johnson poured in a game-high 30 points thanks to knocking down 10-of-18 from the field. She also added eight rebounds, four steals, one block and one assist in the victory. It was Rider's second win over a team from the BIG EAST this season.

The Broncs are now 3-0 against high-major opponents in 2019. Stella currently leads the country in scoring with over 29 points per game and she also leads the MAAC in steals per game at 3.3 thefts per contest. It was her third straight game with four or more steals.

Rider returns to action on Wednesday, November 18, with a home non-conference contest against Wagner is slated to begin at 7:00 pm. The Broncs and Seahawks are squaring off for the first time since December of 2006.
