Two Stags Placed on Women's Soccer All-Region Teams
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer duo Stephanie Tsangaris and Gabby Diodati were honored by the United Soccer Coaches as each was placed on an All-Region squad. Tsangaris was voted to the All-Atlantic Second Team while Diodati was chosen to the Third Team. The two selections mark the first All-Region picks for the Stags since 2013.
"I'm really pleased that Steph and Gabby got recognition from coaches around the region," Head Coach
David Barrett, the 2019 BSN MAAC Coach of the Year said. "I think it's a reflection of the team as individuals will only get accolades if the team does well. I'm happy we were able to draw attention to them and they both are well deserving of the honor and hopefully this is the start of something more for each of them."
Tsangaris was named to the All-MAAC First Team after tying for the team lead with seven goals to combine with three assists. She finished seventh in the MAAC with 17 points and sixth in the conference with seven scores. She also led the league with four game-winning goals. Tsangaris joined Monmouth's Jess Johnson on the All-Region Second Team along with student-athletes from other NCAA Tournament teams: Virginia, Duke, Florida State and Notre Dame.
Diodati was a leader on both sides of the ball for the Stags as she led the team with 18 points on a MAAC-leading eight assists. Her 18 points also ranked fifth in the conference. Diodati netted five goals in the 2019 campaign, the biggest coming in a 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac in the MAAC Semifinals. On defense, Diodati controlled the right back position and helped Fairfield become of the most intimidating defenses in the MAAC with eight shutouts.
The two become the 15th and 16th players in program history to receive an All-Region selection. The Stags are coming off an 11 win campaign while advancing to the MAAC Championship Game, their first in five years. Fairfield ranked in the top-10 in the country towards the end of the season with 44 goals scored.
