Rider and Fairfield Maintain Lead After Day Two of 2019 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships
BUFFALO, NY – At the end of the second day of the MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships, Rider University men remain atop the leaderboard with 252 points. For the women, Fairfield University extended its lead by finishing the evening with 279 points.

Day 2 Highlights
- Fairfield sophomore, Sara Ostensen, won the Women’s 500 Freestyle for the second year in a row with a time of 4:54.83.
- The Fairfield women won all three women’s individual swimming events, including a sweep of first, second, and third place in the Women’s 500 Freestyle.
- The Rider trio of Meg Tomayko, Breanne Hatter, and Meagan Fornero secured 49 points in the women’s 3M dive, the most of any women’s squad.
- Freshman Callan Smith from Monmouth University placed first in the Men’s 500 Freestyle, making him the first Hawk-swimmer in program history to win gold at the MAAC Swimming & Diving Championship.
- Bryant University’s Micah Ornelas won gold in the Men’s 200 IM with a time of 1:46.58. The graduate transfer broke the previous MAAC record by .98 seconds.
- Senior Vincent Gibbons of Rider won the Men’s 50 Freestyle with a time of 19.82, good for a NCAA B cut. Gibbons was the only male to swim a sub-20 second mark in the event.
