MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Set to Begin Saturday

EDISON, NJ –The 2019 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships return to the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center in New York, NY. The MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships return to The Armory for the 16th consecutive year and will stream live on MAAC.TV.
 
On Saturday, the first running event is the women’s mile trails, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. Kicking off the field events on Saturday is the women’s weight throw, also at 5 p.m.
 
On the men’s side, Monmouth University looks to earn its second-straight and fifth overall MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship title. Since entering the MAAC in 2014, the Monmouth men have won the Indoor Track & Field Championships four times. The Hawks currently have multiple athletes with top performances in the MAAC in their respective events.
 
On the women’s side, Monmouth will be going for their sixth straight title this weekend. Since they entered the league during the 2013-2014 season, they have won every MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship they have competed in.
 
 Around the MAAC:
  • Monmouth graduate student, Allie Wilson currently holds the fastest time in the NCAA for the women’s 800 with a mark of 2:02.65.
  • Monmouth has the fastest time in the 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay, and DMR on the women’s side. In the men’s relays, Rider holds the fastest time in the 4x400 and the DMR, and Marist is tops in the 4x800.
  • Rider University’s Sara Gardner and Cleopatra Morrison hold the top times in the MAAC for the 60m hurdles and the 60m, respectively. Gardner looks to improve on her second-place finish in the 2018 Indoor Track & Field as she enters this year’s championships as the top seed in the Women’s 60m Hurdles.
  • For the Rider men, senior Russell Malko looks to repeat as the 400m champion. Malko has the third fastest time in the event in the MAAC this season with a time of 48.66, and stands as the top time in the men’s 500m (1:04.41). 
  • Previous MAAC Track Performer of the Week, Luciano Fiore from Siena College, looks to have a strong performance in the men’s 1000m as he recorded the fastest time in the MAAC this season (2:25.64).
  • The 2018 Male Track Performer of the Meet, Iona College’s Johannes Motschmann, looks to repeat as the men’s 3000m and 5000M champion at this year’s championship.
  • Quinnipiac University’s Emily Wolff, the 2018 women’s 5000m champion, looks to defend her title as she holds the top time in the MAAC (16:32.37).
  • Manhattan College’s Anu Awonusi aims for a strong performance as he currently has the second-best performance in the MAAC in the men’s shot put. On the women’s side in the shot put, Lasma Padedze recorded the second-best mark in the MAAC at 14.81m. The sophomore was Field Rookie of the Meet in 2018 for the women.
  • Marist College’s Hayley Collins’ season-best time in the 5000m (17:21.99) is fourth in the MAAC this season. Collins was the Track Rookie of the Meet on the women’s side. The sophomore is joined in the top five by classmate Gianna Tedeschi.
