Fairfield Women Win Second-Straight MAAC Swimming & Diving Championship
BUFFALO, NY – Fairfield University captured back-to-back MAAC Swimming & Diving Championship titles after scoring 776 points throughout four days of competition at the Burt Flickenger Athletic Center.
The champions won 13 events through four days of competition. On the final day, the Stags seized four individual events, more than any other women’s program, including the 1650 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, and 200 Butterfly.

Day 4 Highlights
- Sara Ostensen won the mile for the second year in a row, besting last year’s performance by five seconds with a mark of 16:50.59. The sophomore added to her first-place finish in the 500 Freestyle and second-place finish in the 200 Butterfly.
- Colleen Young finished first in the 200 Breaststroke for the second-straight year, recording a mark of 2:18.57 after placing second in the 100-yard distance.
- Morgan Hansen’s third individual title in the 200 Butterfly led her to Most Outstanding Swimmer of the meet honors. The sophomore’s two other gold medals came in the 200 IM and a MAAC record-breaking 100 Butterfly swim of 55.38.
- Stags team member Maria Nitti captured two victories on the evening with a 51.71 individual 100 Freestyle title as well as a team triumph in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
- Esabelle Gervasio and Madison Sweeney captured Most Outstanding Diver and Diving Rookie of the Meet, respectively. The duo combined for a total 53 points for the Red Foxes this week.
