Quinnipiac’s Otero and Monmouth’s Irons Win MAAC Softball Weekly Awards
Player & Rookie of the Week
Alexis Otero, Quinnipiac
Fr., Chula Vista, CA/Eastlake
Otero finished the Bobcats' opening weekend with a .400 batting average after going 6-15 through five games. She led the Bobcats with six runs, including one run in a 5-2 win over Holy Cross and three runs in an 11-2 win over Akron. Otero recorded one double, one homer and three RBIs to lead the Bobcats to a 2-3 opening weekend record.
Pitcher of the Week
Alyssa Irons, Monmouth
So., Rock Creek, OH/Jefferson Area
Irons went 2-1 over the weekend with two complete games. In the win over Holy Cross on Sunday, she tossed a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits and striking out six batters. Against Belmont on Saturday, she gave up just two earns runs with eight strikeouts.
