Marist College Picked as 2019 MAAC Women’s Rowing Preseason Favorites
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced Friday that Marist College is the 2019 MAAC Women’s Rowing Preseason Favorite as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
The Red Foxes were voted first with 96 points and six first-place votes in the preseason poll. Marist has had strong showings in recent years at the MAAC Rowing Championships, with three athletes earning 2018 All-MAAC First Team honors. Marist has not placed below second in the MAAC Rowing Championships since 2000, when they took third. Marist looks to capture its first title since 2013.
Following closely in second in the poll is Jacksonville University with 94 points and four first-place votes. Jacksonville won its fifth-straight MAAC Rowing Championship in 2018 with 53 team points, also winning the 2
nd Varsity 8 and Varsity 8 Grand Finals. Five Dolphins earned All-MAAC First Team honors, more than any other team competing at the championships. Jacksonville is led by 2018 MAAC Coach of the Year, Mike Lane.
Canisius College placed third in the poll with 76 points, followed by Drake University with 69 points. Robert Morris University came in fifth with 51 points, tailed closely by Fairfield University which tallied 49 points. Manhattan College was awarded 43 points and Stetson University finished in eighth with 35 points. Sacred Heart University (24 points) and Iona College (13 points) round out the poll.

For the second consecutive year the 2019 MAAC Women's Rowing Championship will be hosted at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey. All 10 institutions qualify for the championship and compete for the MAAC's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division I Rowing Championship.
