Quinnipiac and Marist Advance to MAAC Women’s Championship Game for Second-Straight Year

No. 1 Quinnipiac advanced to the MAAC Championship Game for the sixth-straight year, defeating No. 4 Monmouth 80-42. Stellar defense for the Bobcats proved to be the difference, as the team limited the Hawks to 26-percent from the field. The Bobcats once again will face rival Marist College in the final MAAC game of the year.
Quinnipiac Notes
- Will play in the Women’s Championship Game on Monday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. against No. 3 Marist College on ESPNU
- Since joining the MAAC in the 2013-14 season, Quinnipiac has made every MAAC Championship game. They are 3-2 while playing in the Championship
- The win was Quinnipiac’s 20th straight, second in the nation only to No. 1 Baylor. The win is also the 51st straight in MAAC play, dating back to the 2016-17 season.
- The Bobcats jumped out to an early 17-5 lead at the first media timeout after going on an 11-0 run
- 17 of Quinnipiac’s 41 first half points came from turnovers
- The Bobcats held the Hawks without a single point from the 3:52 mark of the second quarter to the 3:31 mark of the third, a span of over ten minutes.
- The defense limited Monmouth to only 26-percent from the field
- Brittany martin led the Bobcats with 17 points. Paula Strautmane, Taylor Herd, and Jen Fay also scored in double-digits
- 10 different Bobcats recorded points in the win
Monmouth Notes
- Monmouth was held to six points throughout the second quarter, shooting 25-percent from the field
- Monmouth was held to only four points in the third quarter, hitting only one shot from the field (1-10)
- Monmouth was held scoreless for over 10 minutes during the second and third quarters
- Sierra Green, who led the MAAC in points from beyond the arc, converted only 1-8 from three-point range. Green led the Hawks with 11 points
- Alexa Middleton and Lucy Thomas each grabbed five boards for the Hawks
- Allure Simmons exited the game early for the Hawks with a head injury

No. 3 Marist secured the victory over No. 2 Rider and advanced to the MAAC Championship Game. Strong defensive play early on left Rider playing catchup for the entirety of the game. The Red Foxes now look for redemption after falling to rival Quinnipiac University in last season’s Championship.
Marist Notes

- Marist heads to the Championship game for the second-straight year and MAAC record 14th time overall, with all appearances coming under head coach Brian Giorgis
- The win marks the first time in program history that Marist won a postseason game as the lower seed
- Marist was swept by Rider during the regular season
- First Team All-MAAC selection Alana Gilmer, who scored 25 in Marist’s win over Manhattan, was scratched from the lineup and did not play
- The Red Foxes shot 7-12 (58.3-percent) from the field in the second quarter to take a 29-19 lead into halftime
- Tied at 45 with 5:19 remaining, the Red Foxes went on an 11-0 run over the next 3:26 to re-establish the lead
- 34 of Marist’s 62 points came from within the paint
- Marist led for the entirety of the game
- Rebekah Hand and Grace Vander Weide led Marist scorers, both dropping 14 in the win
- Willow Duffell had a game-high 11 rebounds
Rider Notes
- The Broncs shot 14.3-percent in the first quarter, being held scoreless for a run that lasted over five minutes
- A strong third quarter brought the Broncs within three to start the final frame. Rider would tie the game multiple times in the fourth but never take the lead
- Rider was one for their last seven attempts from the field
- Stella Johnson led all scorers with 24 points, adding four rebounds and two assists
- Amari Johnson was held scoreless for the entirety of the game, going 0-6
Championship Game Notes
- The last time a Women’s MAAC Championship Game didn’t feature either Quinnipiac or Marist was the 2002-03 season
- This will be the fourth meeting between the two rivals in the MAAC Championship Game, Quinnipiac currently leads the series 2-1
- Quinnipiac won the season series against Marist, collecting victories in both meetings
- Quinnipiac leads the all-time series between the two teams, 11-4
- Marist has now made the MAAC Championship game a record 14 times

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will take place March 7-11 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The women’s first round, quarterfinal, and semifinal games will all be aired on ESPN3. The championship game is set for Monday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. and will be aired on ESPNU.
