Rider to Play West Virginia in Opening Round of WNIT

EDISON, NJ – Rider University (19-12) will face West Virginia University (20-10) in the First Round of the 2019 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
 
The Broncs will take on the Mountaineers on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in Morgantown, West Virginia. 
 
West Virginia finished in fourth place in the Big 12 regular season standings. The Mountaineers most recently fell to Kansas State 59-72 in the Big 12 Quarterfinals.
 
Rider returns to the WNIT for the second time, also making the Tournament in 2017. The Broncs finished the MAAC regular season in second place after going 14-4 in conference play. Rider defeated Iona College 54-46 in the First Round of the MAAC Championship before falling to runner-up Marist College 52-62 in the Semifinals.
 
Junior Guard Stella Johnson was named the 2018-19 MAAC Player of the Year and was also selected to the MAAC All-Championship Team. Johnson led the Broncs in Albany, averaging 22 points, eight rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Junior Guard Amari Johnson was selected to the 2018-19 All-MAAC Second Team and senior guard Lexi Posset was selected to the All-MAAC Third Team.
