Quinnipiac's Vulgamore and Niagara's Howard and Marchese Named MAAC Baseball Players of the Week
Player of the Week
Evan Vulgamore, Quinnipiac
Jr., Bow, NH/Bow
Vulgamore was the top offensive player for the Bobcats as he had a slash line of .526/.550/.737 in five games during the week. The junior recorded 10 hits in 19 at bats, recording four straight multi-hit games and doubled in four straight games to end the weekend. Vulgamore scored a team-high five runs and had four RBIs and was also a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases. Vulgamore's nine doubles are just two away from tying his career-high on the season and he has scored 15 runs in 15 games so far this season and is up to a .356 batting average.
Pitcher of the Week
Tyler Howard, Niagara
Sr., North Tonawanda, NY/St. Joe's Collegiate
Tyler Howard earned his second complete game win of the season on March 15 as NU defeated Cincinnati 2-1 in a true pitcher's duel. Howard struck out a season-high six batters. He pitched seven scoreless innings, and allowed just four hits and one run over the course of 9.0 innings pitched.
Rookie of the Week
Josh Marchese, Niagara
Fr., Burnaby, British Columbia/ St. Thomas More
Marchese had a breakout week for the Purple Eagles at the DH spot. In NU's win over Utah Valley on March 12, Marchese hit his first two career homeruns (both were two-run homers) while also recording a career-high three hits and four RBI. Marchese had one or more hits in four out of five games last week. He finished the week batting .467 with a .529 on-base percentage and .867 slugging percentage.
