2019 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship Field Set
EDISON, NJ- The matchups and seeds for the 2019 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship are confirmed.
The No. 1 seed for the fifth-straight season is Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats finished the MAAC regular season at 18-0, marking the second consecutive year the team has gone undefeated in conference play. Including the post-season, the Bobcats are on a 49-game win streak against MAAC opponents, with their last loss coming in the 2016-2017 season. After winning the MAAC title last season, the Bobcats beat Miami in the first round of the NCAA tournament before falling to No. 1 UConn in the round of 32.
Rider University will be the No. 2 seed entering the MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship. The Broncs finished the season at 14-4 in league play and look to make another strong post season run. Last year in Albany, the Broncs advanced to the semifinals as the fifth seed before falling to eventual champion Quinnipiac.
Marist College finished with another strong season, going 13-5 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes will go into Albany as the No. 3 seed and look to make it to the championship game for the second year in a row.
Monmouth University, Canisius College, and Manhattan College all finished the season tied at 9-9. Monmouth wins the tiebreaker, going 2-1 against Canisius and Manhattan, securing the No. 4 seed. Canisius finished the season going 2-2 against Monmouth and Manhattan, giving them the No. 5 seed. Manhattan went 1-2 in their matchups with Canisius and Monmouth, giving them the No. 6 seed.
Siena College and Niagara University finished the season tied at 8-10. Siena won the lone meeting between the two teams, giving them the advantage and securing the No. 7 seed. The Purple eagles will travel to Albany as the No. 8 seed.
The field is rounded out by No. 9 seed Fairfield University (7-11), No. 10 Iona College (3-15), and No. 11 Saint Peter’s University (1-17).
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will take place March 7-11 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The women’s first round, quarter final, and semi-final games will all be aired on ESPN3. The championship game is set for Monday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. and will be aired on ESPNU.
