Quinnipiac’s Moskey and Siena’s Miller Named 2019 Senior CLASS Award Candidates for Baseball
OVERLAND PARK, KS – Two MAAC baseball student-athletes are candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award. Brian Moskey of Quinnipiac University and Tommy Miller of Siena College are two of the 30 candidates announced on Friday.
Moskey is Quinnipiac baseball’s first Senior CLASS Award candidate. The senior is a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection. A 2019 captain and starting center fielder, Moskey is also active in the community by visiting local schools with teammates and helping out at clinics. The Higganum, Connecticut native is a career .282 hitter and has scored 102 runs.
Miller joins former teammate Phil Madonna, who was a 2018 candidate, as the only candidates from Siena’s baseball program. Miller was a First Team All-MAAC and ECAC Second Team All-Star last season. In the community, the Castleton, New York native and his teammates have made several visits to the Ronald McDonald House of Albany. Miller has also participated in the Latham Circle TOPPS program, which helps kids with disabilities learn how to play soccer.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches, and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C’s of community, classroom, character, and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 College World Series® in June.
