No. 6 South Dakota State moved on in the 2019 NCAA Women’s Tournament with a 76-65 win over No. 11 Quinnipiac. After a strong first half, the Jackrabbits were able to halt the Bobcats’ second half push to secure the win and advance to the next round.
South Dakota Notes
- The Jackrabbits opened the game hot, shooting 51.5-percent in the first half
- South Dakota State took advantage of its chances from the foul line, going 20-for-24
- Macy Miller led all scorers with 28 points, going 4-for-5 from 3-point range
- Madison Guebert (11) and Myah Selland (14) were also in double digits for the Jackrabbits
Quinnipiac Notes
- Quinnipiac shot 35.7-percent in the first half
- The Bobcats trailed by double digits but were able to cut the lead to seven entering the final frame, and eventually to one possession late in the game
- Quinnipiac starters Jen Fay and Aryn McClure both fouled out in the fourth quarter
- Fay went to work to start the second half, scoring 12 points in the third quarter. Fay finished the game with 25 buckets and nine rebounds
- Paula Strautmane dropped the first seven points for the Bobcats, finishing the game with 15 points as well as five rebounds and two assists
- Edel Thornton led the Bobcats in court time and contributed four points, four rebounds, and five assists
