Player of the Week
Lauren Pitney, Manhattan
Sr., Ansonia, CT/St. Joseph’s
Over two games at San Jose State, Pitney put together a spectacular performance at the plate with five hits in seven at bats with a slugging percentage of 1.143 and an on-base percentage of .778. On the week, Pitney compiled a team-high batting average of .636, scoring five runs on seven hits. She nabbed a double and a triple this week, totaling 10 bases, a slugging percentage of .909 and an on-base percentage of .750. At second base in four starts, Pitney earned 12 put outs and 10 assists.
Pitcher and Rookie of the Week
Kara Zazzaro, Iona
Fr., Southington, CT/Southington
Zazzaro appeared three times for Iona during the week; she fired complete games in both of her starts, shutting out Boston University on Sunday to notch her second win of the season. The rookie scattered four hits and struck out one batter in the 1-0 victory. Earlier in the week, Zazzaro was on the losing end of a 1-0 game at Pacific. The Southington, CT native allowed three hits, one run and punched out three. The freshman finished the week with an impressive 0.50 ERA and .137 BAA.
