MAAC Announces 2018-19 Women’s Basketball All-Rookie Team
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced its All-Rookie team for women’s basketball.
The MAAC All-Rookie Team is made up of Juana Camilion of Iona College, D’yona Davis of Manhattan College, Lou Lopez-Senechal of Fairfield University, Briyanah Richardson of Saint Peter’s University, and Lucy Thomas of Monmouth University.
One of the five MAAC All-Rookie Team members will be honored as the 2018-2019 MAAC Rookie of the Year at the Postseason Awards Show, which will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Albany, New York, on Friday, March 8 at 10:30 a.m. The Postseason Awards Show airs live on ESPN3.
Iona’s Camilion averaged 9.1 points per game, which was third best for the Gaels. The freshman started 23 of the 24 games she played in, averaging 32.5 minutes per game. Camilion led the Gaels in scoring on five separate occasions against Fairfield, twice against Rider University, and twice against Saint Peter’s.
D’yona Davis of Manhattan was a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week. She led the Jaspers in scoring with 8.9 points per game. Davis shot .400 from the field, .339 from beyond the arc, and .538 from the line to lead the Jaspers to a sixth place MAAC finish in the regular season.
Like Manhattan’s Davis, Lou Lopez-Senechal of Fairfield was also a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week. The Grenoble, France native led the Stags with 11.4 points per game while averaging 30.1 minutes and starting every game she played in. The freshman shot .400 from the field and .317 from beyond the arc to help the Stags finish the season 6-4 in their final 10 games.
Saint Peter’s Briyanah Richardson had the highest scoring game in the MAAC this season, putting up 39 points against Fairfield on January 15. The mark put her in the top-10 for most points in a single game in MAAC women’s history. The Peacock’s Freshman led her team averaging 13.1 points per game, which was sixth in the MAAC and highest by any freshman. She also averaged 3.4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Monmouth’s Lucy Thomas averaged 9.6 points per game and shot .394 from the field. The freshman was a two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, averaging 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game for the Hawks. Thomas started in 26 of the 29 games she saw action in.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will take place March 7-11 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The women’s first round, quarterfinal, and semifinal games will all be aired on ESPN3. The championship game is set for Monday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. and will be aired on ESPNU.
