Ehab El-Sandali & Joshua De Souza Represent At IAAF XC Championships

AARHUS, DENMARK – Rookie Joshua De Souza and sophomore Ehab El-Sandali represented their home country of Canada at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Mar. 30.

Taking place at the world renowned Moesgaard Museum, both Gaels ventured through the incredibly difficult course in a race that featured some of the most accomplished runners from across the globe.

De Souza raced in the U20 7,728-meter event and finished in 61st place with a tie of 27:12. He was the fourth finisher for his nation. Canada placed 12th out of 16 in the junior event with 207 points. Ethiopian Milkesa Mengesha won the race in 23:52, just two second ahead of teammate Tadese Worku. The Country of Ethiopia won the U20 race with 18 team points, 14 better than runner-up country Uganda.

El-Sandali competed in the veteran championship race and placed 97th overall in a time of 35:35 in the 10,240-meter event. Canada placed 16th as a team out of 18 teams competing. El-Sandali had the fourth fastest time among his teammates. Uganda had the top two individuals in the race and as a result the country captured the team title as well. Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo placed one-two in 31:40 and 31:44. Their team had 20 points, 13 less than runner-up Kenya.
