Fairfield Claims 2019 Women’s Lacrosse Regular Season Title
EDISON, NJ – Preseason favorite Fairfield University (12-3, 7-0) has clinched the 2019 MAAC Regular Season Title after a 17-12 win over Iona College (1-15, 0-7). The Stags will now be the top seed and host the 2019 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Fairfield, Connecticut for the first time since 2005.
The Stags are the defending MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Champions after defeating Canisius College in last year’s championship game. Fairfield has made the final game in three of the last four years, claiming the title in 2015 in addition to last year.
Fairfield secured today’s win with heavy production from midfielder Brooke Gallagher, recording seven points off of four goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Jillian Winwood added three goals and an assist for a total of four points. Cameryn Dera (2), Kathleen Hulseman (2), Meaghan Graham (2), Taylor Mitchell (2), Kelly Horning (1), and Diana DeVita (1) also found the back of the net for the Stags. Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Conquest allowed 12 and stopped seven for a .368 save percentage.
The 2019 Women’s Lacrosse Championship will feature the league’s top six teams. Action begins Saturday, April 27 with games hosted by the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. The championship moves to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium in Fairfield for the semifinal and final games, taking place Thursday, May 2 and Saturday, May 4.
