Quinnipiac Claims 2019 MAAC Women’s Tennis Regular Season Title

EDISON, NJ – Quinnipiac University (10-13, 6-0) clinched the top seed for the 2019 Women’s Tennis Championship today with a 4-3 win over Fairfield University (11-7, 41). The Bobcats will be the No. 1 seed for the sixth year in a row.
 
The Bobcats picked up singles victories from Kamilla Nella in the No. 3 spot, Layla Rodriguez in the No. 5 spot, and Courtney Nash in the No. 6 spot. Nella improved to .500 (15-15) in singles matches this season while Rodriguez collected her ninth consecutive singles victory. Nash improved her impressive singles record to 15-8.
 
On the doubles side, victories were earned from Payton Bradley and Nella in the No. 2 pairing as well as from Lu and Rodriguez in the No. 3 pairing. Bradley and Nella collected their fourth win as a duo this year, Lu and Rodriguez earned their fifth.
 
The Bobcats have won the MAAC title five-straight years and are currently on a 53-game MAAC winning streak, the longest active conference winning streak in Division I tennis. In last year’s championship, Quinnipiac defeated Niagara University 4-0 in the semifinals before topping Marist College 4-1 to collect the title.
 
The 2019 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Championship will be held at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. Semifinal action begins Saturday, April 27 and the finals take place Sunday, April 28. For more information on the 2019 MAAC Tennis Championships, visit maacsports.com/tennis.
