Monmouth’s Slocum, Rider’s Gardner and Manhattan’s Waugh & Bjorkman Collect Outdoor Track & Field Player of the Week Honors
Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Khalid Slocum, Monmouth
Sr., Annapolis, MD/Annapolis
Slocum continued his dominance in the sprints and long jump from the indoor season as he registered two wins and a second place finish at the Monmouth Season Opener meet this weekend. He won the long jump with an IC4A qualifying mark of 7.49 meters and also posted an IC4A qualifying time in the 100M by finishing in 10.99 seconds. The Annapolis native also anchored the 4x100 relay that won with an IC4A qualifying time of 41.38. Slocum holds the MAAC’s top performances in both the 100M and long jump.
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Sara Gardner, Rider
Gr., Holland Township, NJ/Delaware Valley
Graduate student Sara Gardner delivered a dominant performance as the Broncs won the Rider 5-Way Meet last weekend. Gardner finished first overall in 100M hurdles, the high jump and as part of the 4x100 relay. She won the 100M hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying time of 13.95. It is the fastest mark by a student-athlete in the MAAC during the outdoor season. She also anchored the 4x100 relay that won with a time of 48.51. Gardner also won the high jump by clearing 1.65 meters.
Men’s Field Performer
Eric Waugh, Manhattan
Sr., Wheatley Heights, NY/Half Hollow Hills West
Waugh won the men's discus throw at the Monmouth Season Opener with a distance of 52.52 meters, a personal best and the best performance in the MAAC this season. Waugh also qualified for the IC4A Championships with a fifth-place showing in the men's hammer throw, recording a distance of 51.36 meters, also a personal best.
Women’s Field Performer
Nina Bjorkman, Manhattan
Fr., Vasteras, Sweden/Widenska Idrottsgymnasium
At the Monmouth Season Opener, her first collegiate outdoor meet, Bjorkman recorded a hammer throw of 51.84 meters, placing first overall. The freshman defeated her closest opponent by more than two meters and qualified for the ECAC Championships. She currently holds the MAAC's best performance in the event.
