Albany Women Win Second Straight MAAC Golf Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The University at Albany claimed its second MAAC Golf Championship Saturday at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course. It is the program’s third championship since Albany joined the MAAC. Head coach Colleen Cashman-McSween was named the MAAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
 
The Great Danes finished with two players finishing in the top 10, including the women’s runner up, junior Helga Einarsdottir. The junior posted the best score for Albany on the weekend, finishing the third round in second with 228 (+12).
 
Madison Walker was Albany’s other top performer on the weekend, finishing tied for sixth at +16. The freshman also split the MAAC Rookie of the Year Title with Sarah Frazier of the University of Dayton, who posted the same score.
 
Maria Loza from the University of Hartford won the 2019 McLeod Trophy, finishing at 226 (+10). Loza is the first player from Hartford to earn the honor since Sarah Sideranko in 2010. Loza’s performance helped the Flyers finish tied for fifth with a score of 994.
 
The University of Dayton finished tied in second with Quinnipiac University at 944. Dayton placed three golfers in the top 10, with Quinnipiac placing two.
