Iona’s Kinsey & Hansen and Quinnipiac’s Maves Take Home MAAC Baseball Weekly Honors
Player of the Week
Fran Kinsey, Iona
Sr., Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic
Kinsey remained hot at the plate for the Gaels. Riding a seven-game hit streak and six straight games of driving in a run, Kinsey batted .583 over the course of a 3-1 week. He had an on-base percentage of .737 and 1.167 slugging percentage. He hit two home runs and also added in three steals. He has been batting second in the batting order and therefore crossed the plate seven times.
Pitcher of the Week
Stephen Hansen, Iona
Jr., Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan
Stephen Hansen was dominant on the mound with eight shutout innings against the Niagara Purple Eagles in the decisive rubber match. He struck out a season-best 11 batters and walked none. He allowed just five hits. He has a conference ERA of 2.16. He has not allowed an earned run over his last 16 innings pitched.
Rookie of the Week
Kyle Maves, Quinnipiac
Fr., Burlington, Ontario/Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School
Maves was stellar at the plate this past week as he played in four of five games, batting .563 with a .632 on base percentage after nine hits and three walks. The freshman currently has a five-game hitting streak and had three hits in each of the two midweek games versus Yale and Bryant, and scored a career-high four runs against Yale. Maves also recorded two stolen bases on the week and now leads the MAAC with 15 stolen bases.
