Edison, NJ – Fairfield University (14-7, 5-1) will face Pepperdine University (21-3, 9-0 WCC) in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship. The Stags are coming off of the school’s first MAAC Championship title since 2012. The opening round match will take place on Friday, May 3 at 1 p.m. in Malibu, California.

The Stags defeated Quinnipiac University 4-3 in yesterday’s MAAC Tennis Championship to claim the title and a NCAA Championship birth. The Most Outstanding Performer for the Stags was Jessica Pil, who clinched the final point to give Fairfield the victory.

Earlier in the week, Fairfield swept the 2019 MAAC Major Awards. Freshman Amanda Nowak was named both the 2019 MAAC Women’s Tennis Rookie and Player of the Year after going undefeated in MAAC singles play, primarily from the No. 1 spot. Nowak was also named to the All-MAAC First Team for the No. 1 singles spot. Jeff Bricker was named the 2019 MAAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year. Bricker dramatically improved the team’s production after missing the MAAC Championship last year. The Stags won 25 of 36 possible MAAC singles matches on the season, and went 12-6 on the doubles side.
