Iona College’s Smith Named MAAC SAAC Vice Chair
EDISON, NJ – Jamie Smith of Iona College women’s volleyball has been voted in as MAAC SAAC Vice Chair for the start of the 2019-20 academic year. Smith will serve alongside MAAC SAAC Chair TJ Stuart of Manhattan College.
The MAAC SAAC Vice Chair will assist the MAAC SAAC Chair (Stuart) in all aspects of oversight related to conference SAAC operations and initiatives. Smith, a sophomore, will serve a two-year term.
"I would like to thank the MAAC, as well as my peers, for giving me this incredible opportunity to represent all of our institutions as MAAC SAAC Vice Chair,” said Smith. “I look forward to building upon the foundation and values of MAAC SAAC, and working with other student-athletes and administrators throughout our conference.”
This past season, Smith was an All-MAAC Second Team selection as well as a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team. The sophomore earned CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I First Team honors. Smith and the Gaels won both the 2018 MAAC regular season crown and conference championship to earn the league’s bid to the NCAA Tournament. As a freshman in 2017, Smith earned MAAC Rookie of the Year honors.
Smith, who is a member of SAAC at Iona, also works as a marketing intern in the Iona Athletics Department. She also serves as counselor at the volleyball camp at her former high school, Massapequa, and as an events coordinator at the SPORTIME Bethpage Multi-Sport complex.
The Business Administration major sports a 3.96 GPA, has made the Dean’s List each semester at Iona, and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma.
