Siena’s Fiore, Monmouth’s Wilson & Murphy, and Manhattan’s Bjorkman Win Outdoor Track & Field Player of the Week Honors
Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Luciano Fiore, Siena
Sr., Brightwaters, NY/Bay Shore
Fiore stole the show in the men's 800M at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton on Saturday, as he bursted from back of the pack in his heat to take home first place. The senior's time of 1:51.66 set a new personal record in the event for him, and comes in as the second fastest time in the event in program history. Fiore’s time is the fastest in the MAAC for the men’s outdoor 800M.
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Allie Wilson, Monmouth
Gr., Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven
Wilson finished as the top collegian at the Sam Howell Invitational in the 800M by finishing in 2:03.81. The Wallingford, PA native only lost to a professional athlete in the 800M run and qualified for the ECAC Championships in May. The time is also the best in the MAAC by nearly four seconds and is currently fourth in all of NCAA Division I women's track and field.
Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Corey Murphy, Monmouth
R-Sr., Yaphank, NY/Longwood
Murphy recorded his first win of the season in the shot put with a winning throw of 19.16 meters at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University. The Yaphank, NY native also placed third in the discus with a mark of 52.23 meters. Both marks surpassed the IC4A standards while the shot put mark is now tops in the MAAC while the discus mark is now second in the conference.
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Nina Bjorkman, Manhattan
Fr., Vasteras, Sweden/ Widenska Idrottsgymnasium
Bjorkman won third in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 54.54 meters at the Sam Howell Invitational. The mark stands as the MAAC's top performance in the event so far this season. It is Bjorkman’s second consecutive weekly award for women’s field performer.
