Monmouth to Face No. 10 LSU in Baton Rouge NCAA Softball Regional

Edison, NJ – Monmouth University (36-16), the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Champions, will be traveling to Baton Rouge to take on No. 10 LSU (40-16). Also heading to Louisiana for the NCAA Regional is Baton Rouge is Texas Tech (39-14) and Louisiana Tech (44-14). The Regional is a double-elimination style tournament between the four teams, with the winner moving on to the Super Regional. The Hawks will face off against the Tigers on Friday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
 
The Hawks won the program’s second-straight MAAC Championship by defeating Marist College 6-1 ­on Saturday, May 11. Monmouth went undefeated in the MAAC Championship as the No. 2 seed after going 16-4 in conference play, sharing the regular season title with the Red Foxes. The Hawks will head to Baton Rouge as winners of nine of their last ten games.
 
Sophomore Alyssa Irons was named the 2019 MAAC Pitcher of the Year after finishing with the league’s third-lowest ERA and being the only pitcher to toss over 200 innings. The Ohio native produced 27 regular season wins for the Hawks, adding three more in the MAAC Championship to reach an even 30. Freshman Lindsey Baron was named the 2019 MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year, leading the league in home runs as a freshman. A New Jersey native, Baron currently sports a .354 average with 28 RBIs and 51 runs on 58 hits. In addition to Irons and Baron, the All-MAAC First Team was also comprised of Monmouth’s Erika Coreth and Kayla Rosado.
