2019 MAAC Women’s Rowing Championship to Begin on Sunday
PENNSAUKEN TOWNSHIP, NJ – The 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Rowing Championship takes place Sunday, May 19 at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey. The field consists of four full-time conference members; Canisius College, Fairfield University, Manhattan College, and Marist College, and five associate members; Drake University, Jacksonville University, Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, and Stetson University.
For the second year in a row, the MAAC will co-host its conference championship with the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and the Ivy League.
The 2019 MAAC Women’s Rowing Championship will be streamed on MAAC.TV for the second straight year. Live coverage of the championship races begins at 9:20 a.m. on Sunday with the heats, followed by the finals starting at 12:30 p.m.
The awards ceremony will take place following the Varsity 8 Grand Final at approximately 2 p.m., during which the All-MAAC First & Second Teams and Coach of the Year will be announced.

Jacksonville University looks to capture its sixth-consecutive MAAC Women’s Rowing Championship. The Dolphins won the 2
nd Varsity 8 and Varsity 8 Grand Finals in last year’s championship, finishing in 7:56.05 and 7:16.66, respectively. Jacksonville also took home silver in the Varsity 4 Grand Final.
Marist College was voted first in the 2019 MAAC Women’s Rowing Coaches’ Preseason Poll, receiving six first-place votes. The Red Foxes have not finished lower than third at the championship regatta since the MAAC began sponsoring the event in 1997. Marist is seeking its first title since 2013.
Around the League:
- Canisius College sent a trio of Varsity 4 boats to the Head of the Niagara & Wright Regatta in October. The three finished 1-2-3 in the seven-boat race, as the “A”, “B” and “C” crews finished in 13:33.26, 14:12.88 and 14:16.25, respectively.
- Drake University defeated Creighton in the Varsity 4, 2nd Varsity 8, and Varsity 8 races in its spring dual against the Bluejays. The Bulldogs won with times of 8:39.00, 7:41.10, and 7:18.30.
- Fairfield University won MAAC Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 Boat of the Week honors on April 18. The Varsity 8 won at the Sacred Heart Invitational (7:43.89), beating out Manhattan, Sacred Heart and SUNY Geneseo. The Varsity 4 won its race in 8:49.85.
- Jacksonville swept all four races on senior day on March 9 against Grand Valley State and Embry-Riddle, winning the Varsity 8 (7:20.40), 2nd Varsity 8 (8:05.40), Varsity 4 (9:10.30) and 2nd Varsity 4 (10:42.90).
- The Manhattan College women's rowing team swept the MAAC weekly awards on April 10, earning conference recognition for the first time in program history.
- Marist won the 2nd Varsity 8 and Varsity 8 races at the 2019 New York State Collegiate Championships. The Red Foxes finished with times of 6:57.80 and 6:42.10, respectively.
- Robert Morris University’s 2nd Varsity 8 Boat won the Black Rock Invitational, beating out Canisius with a time of 7:09.94.
- Sacred Heart University’s Novice 4 and Novice 8 boats won at their home meet—the SHU Invite, crossing the finish line in 10:59.80 and 8:47.30, respectively.
- Stetson University’s Varsity 8 (6:46.00) and Novice 4 (8:18.90) boats took gold at the Rollins Invitational.
