LSU (41-16) shutout Monmouth (36-17) 2-0 in the second game of the Baton Rouge Regional. The game proved to be a pitchers’ duel, with both starters pitching complete games. The Tigers advance to play Texas Tech (40-14) tomorrow in the winner’s bracket. The Hawks move on to play Louisiana Tech University (44-15) in the regional’s first elimination game tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Tiger Park.
 
Monmouth Notes
  • MAAC Pitcher of the Year Alyssa Irons started in the circle for Monmouth
  • Irons sent the Tigers down in order in the first and third innings
  • Amanda Hopeck collected the first hit of the game, a one-out single in the second
  • Hopeck delivered the second hit for the Hawks with an infield single to start the fifth, beating out a throw from the shortstop
  • Kayla Rosado and Amber Wozniak added hits for Monmouth, both recording singles in the sixth
  • Hopeck added another base hit in the seventh, finishing the day going 3-for-3
  • Irons finished the game going all six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts 
LSU Notes
  • Maribeth Gorsuch started in the circle for LSU
  • Shemiah Sanchez got the first hit for the Tigers with a leadoff single in the second
  • Gorsuch only needed seven pitches to retire the Hawks in the fourth
  • Savannah Stewart scored Sanchez for the first run of the ballgame with a two out single in the fourth, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead
  • Amber Serrett put the Tigers up 2-0 with a solo shot in the fifth
  • Sanchez ended the day going 3-for-3 for LSU
  • Gorsuch went all seven innings for the Tigers, allowing five hits with one walk and five strikeouts
