2019 MAAC Baseball Championship Field Set
EDISON, NJ – The field is set, and the seeds determined for the 2019 MAAC Baseball Championship. Canisius College, Fairfield University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Monmouth University, and Quinnipiac University will compete for the 2019 Championship.
Both Canisius (24-27, 17-7 MAAC) and Quinnipiac (26-27, 17-7) shared the regular season crown. However, Canisius will serve as the top seed after winning the head-to-head tiebreaker with No. 2 seed Quinnipiac. Canisius seeks a second MAAC Championship in a row and a third in the last five years. Quinnipiac, which is the No. 2 seed for the second year in a row, enters postseason play winners of four straight.
Amongst another group of tied teams from the regular season standings, Fairfield (31-23, 15-9) will be the No. 3 seed, Marist (27-24, 15-9) the No. 4 seed, and Manhattan (24-31, 15-9) will be the No. 5 seed. Fairfield was able to secure the three seed having won the three-way tiebreaker against Marist and Manhattan.
Fairfield and Manhattan return to the MAAC Championship after a one-year absence. Marist is making its fifth-straight appearance in the championship and seeking a seventh MAAC Championship with the last coming in 2017. Fairfield is looking for a fifth MAAC championship and first since 2016. Manhattan owns three titles and was the last team to go back-to-back in 2011 and 2012.
Monmouth (26-27-1, 13-11) rounds out the field as the sixth seed next week. The Hawks advanced to last season’s championship game before falling to Canisius. Monmouth has made five-of-six MAAC Championships since joining the league in 2013-14.
The 2019 MAAC Baseball Championship takes place May 22-25 at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island, New York. Wednesday’s action starts at 11 a.m. with Fairfield and Monmouth. Marist & Manhattan follow at 3 p.m. Canisius will take on the lower advancing seed from the first two games at 7 p.m. All games on Wednesday and throughout the championship will air on ESPN+.
