The 2019 MAAC Champions Monmouth Hawks (36-18) were eliminated from the 2019 NCAA Softball Tournament after a 1-0 loss to Louisiana Tech (45-15). The Hawks were led by MAAC Pitcher of the Year Alyssa Irons, who one again had a strong performance in the circle. The sixth inning proved to be the difference maker, where the Bulldogs would score the one and only run of the game. Despite a strong performance from the defense, the Hawks’ offense was unable to score a run throughout the weekend.
 
Monmouth Notes
  • Alyssa Irons started in the circle for Monmouth for the 37th time this season
  • Deangie Jimenez grabbed the first hit for the Hawks with a single in the third
  • The Hawks strung together back-to-back singles to start the sixth inning but were unable to push a run across the plate
  • Irons retired 14-straight batters after giving up a hit in bottom of the first inning before walking the leadoff batter in the sixth
  • Jimenez hit Monmouth’s first extra-base hit of the weekend with a double in the sixth, putting the tying run in scoring position
  • Irons pitched the entire game for the Hawks, allowing only one run on two hits with three strikeouts
  • Jasmine Higa finished her career with three hits on the day, Jimenez and Kayla Rosado finished with two, and Sam Tomasetti finished with one
  • Irons pitched all 12.0 innings for Monmouth down in Baton Rouge, allowing only three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts
 
LA Tech Notes
  • Krystal De La Cruz started in the circle for LA Tech
  • Morgan Turkoly grabbed the first hit of the game with a one out single in the first
  • De La Cruz went 4.0 innings, allowing no runs on three hits with five strikeouts before being replaced by Preslee Gallaway
  • The Bulldogs scored the first run of the game off an RBI single in the sixth off the bat of Morgan Turkoly
  • Gallaway collected the win for the Bulldogs, going 3.0 innings of shutout ball, allowing five hits and striking out two
