Game 4: 2019 MAAC Baseball Championship

Quinnipiac (27-27) scored three times in the second and the fifth innings to beat Fairfield (32-24) 6-3 and advance to play fifth-seeded Manhattan on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Bobcats got seven innings from starter Tyler Poulin.
Quinnipiac Notes
• Poulin allowed three hits and three runs while striking out seven Stags to earn his seventh win of the year.
• Dylan Lutz had three RBI for the Bobcats out of the ninth spot of the lineup.
• At the top of the lineup, Brian Moskey went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
• Anthony Cruz and Liam Scafariello scored twice.
• Andrew Workman pitched the final two innings to record his ninth save of the season.
Fairfield Notes
• All three runs for the Stags came in the fourth.
• Dylan Reynolds had two RBIs for the Stags.
• Peter Horn (4-2) allowed three runs—none earned—and took the loss.
• Fairfield moved into an elimination game against Monmouth at 7 p.m.

Game 5 (Elimination): 2019 MAAC Baseball Championship

Monmouth (27-28-1) scored twice in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 11 and then twice in the 10th to eliminate Marist (27-26), 13-11. The Hawks advanced to play Fairfield in the highest scoring MAAC postseason game since 2013.
Monmouth Notes
• Colin McCreary tied the game in the ninth with a two-run homer to right. It was McCreary’s fourth of the season.
• A one-out triple from Johnny Zega, a double from JD Andreessen, and a wild pitch plated the two runs for Monmouth in the 10th.
• Andreessen scored three times and knocked in a run.
• Ryan Lillie pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief to pick-up his third win of the season.
• Four Hawks had multi-hit games; Clay Koniencki (2-for-5), Danny Long (2-for-5), Kyle Norman (2-for-5), and JP Walsh (2-for-4).
Marist Notes
• The Red Foxes went 0-2 at the MAAC Championship for the first time since 2013.
• Anthony Lazar went 4-for-5 with five runs scored, two RBIs, two walks, and was a triple shy of the cycle.
• Three other Red Foxes had multiple hits; Randy Taveras, Robbie Armitage, and Patrick Lightner.
• Armitage had four RBIs—one in the fourth, sixth and two in the seventh.
• Skylar Pichardo (4-6) took the loss after allowing four runs—three earned—over 3.2 innings of relief while striking out five.

Senior Jack Gethings hit a walk-off three-run home run in the 10th inning to lift Fairfield (33-24) past Monmouth (27-29-1) 5-2. Fairfield will play Canisius Saturday at 3 p.m. in an elimination game.
Monmouth Notes
• Hawks struck first with a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by JD Andreessen that scored Johnny Zega.
• James Kelly got the start and went six innings while scattering six hits.
• Matt Graber was 2-for-4 on the night with a run scored. Graber scored the Hawks’ second run on a Kyle Norman sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Fairfield Notes
• The Stags knotted the game at 1-1 with a run in the fifth with sacrifice fly by Justin Guerrera to center that plated Michael Caruso.
• Stater Michael Sansone went 6.2 innings while allowing two earned run and striking out six.
• Dan Ryan tied the game in the ninth with an RBI single to left.
• Eli Oliphant pitched 3.1 innings of relief to earn his fifth win of 2019.
• Gethings—the MAAC Player of the Year—finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
